Ridge Values
The Ridge is a non-denominational church that welcomes
people from all backgrounds. These are some things we value:
Grace Inbound
Jesus died so that we could live forever and forgiven
if we will put our faith in Him. What an amazing deal!
Grace Outbound
Receive it from God. Give it to others.
Don't make a big deal out of small stuff. Give each other a break and a lift.
We believe God calls us to love people, not judge people. People matter to us
because people matter to God. Our mission isn't to constantly walk around
pointing an accusing finger at sinners. We are all sinners and we all sin. It
is our calling to love all people. We believe God loves people. We believe God
loves all people, even those who don't love Him. We believe it is our task to
demonstrate God's love and acceptance and share His invitation to "come". Then,
He and He alone can change a life that is
open to Him.
Worship
Start the week at God's House. It matters. It is
spiritual nourishment. It is symbolic of giving God the first portion of your
week and it gets you focused to face the week ahead.
Daily Connection
Spend some time alone with God. Read a
little in His Word. Talk to Him in prayer. It doesn't have to be complex and
take hours. It may be just minutes, but it is those minutes that keep your
spiritual battery charged.
Growth
Spiritual growth is normal for someone who is
spiritually alive. But, just like our bodies require nourishment and exercise,
our souls require nourishment for spiritual health. One of the growth tools we
encourage is the "Taking the Ridge Challenge". This is a commitment to 6
"Anchor Points" that will produce spiritual growth when we practice them.
Service
Love God horizontally. God calls us to love Him by
loving and serving other people. Help someone at least once this month. It's
that simple. Help with the upkeep of God's House, help in the nursery, make coffee, serve a
senior - you choose. We believe God has called all of us to use our unique
gifts and talents to serve others inside and outside the church walls.
Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming to think of plugging another ongoing
commitment into an already hectic life, so we help you find a way to
"Serve Once". Check with RIDGElink and we will help you find a way to serve on a one
time commitment basis. Just make a habit of serving others. You'll be surprised
at the good it does you.
Groups
We believe a Christ follower honors God's call to
participate in community in order to carry out the "one another" concepts of
scripture (love one another, prayer for one another, share one another's
burdens, etc.). But, let's face it, diving into relationships with people you
don't know (and may not even like) is a little too much to ask. Through our
innovative B.L.A.S.T Groups, we will help you find a way to hook up with some
people you have things in common with and that you actually enjoy so that you
can build life altering, faith building, relationships and have a
blast together!
Scripture
We believe it is more than a good book, it is a
God book. We encourage you to bring your Bible with you on Sunday morning.
Pastor Jess will have you open it and help you understand it in "real world"
language. It is his mission to help you make your Bible a useful tool that you
frequently take off the shelf and consult for daily living. You can expect to
regularly hear him say something like "Oh dude, this right here is big stuff so
underline it and put little fireworks beside it". If you don't have a
Bible to bring with you on Sunday, it is ok. You will not feel out of place in the
least. But, before long, we hope you find yourself saying "that's cool, I gotta
get myself one of those". If you can't afford one, we will give you one. It will
not be a stuffy, boring exercise. It is fun, easy to understand and relevant to
your life.
Giving
Because all of life is a gift from God, all of life
must come under His leadership. We unapologetically challenge you to tithe. We
don't think God is gonna throw cancer on you if you don't, nor do we think He
is gonna drop a new BMW on you if you do. He does promise His blessing if we
will give him the "first fruits" of our labor. We have many people who tell a
story of not tithing because they couldn't possibly pull off 10%. We believe
that giving God the very first part is more important than the percentage
thing. Give God the first part.... if it is 5%, 2%, 1% or even the first $10 of
the paycheck. We have heard story after story of people who started with the "first
part plan" and then saw God do such cool stuff as they moved toward a full
tithe.
Share the faith
Be a witness. Share the hope you have
found. The Bible commands it. Let's be real... this can be very difficult to
do in today's culture. We don't want to be pushy or come off as radicals who
are condemning of people who don't share our beliefs. At The Ridge, we have
found the best way to open the door to faith conversation is to invite someone
to come to church with you. They will receive the benefit of the worship and
Bible teaching. It will be done in a way that you aren't crawling under the
chair thinking "I can't believe I invited my friend on this Sunday". But, the
bigger benefit will be that it provides a great opportunity to sit at lunch the
following week and do a "I've been thinking about last Sunday" kind of faith
conversation. Sometimes you're given the perfect opening to invite someone to
church. Other times, you need to find common ground and cultivate it before you
extend the invitation. Do whatever it takes to "open the door" for another.
Pass it on
We go out of our way to proactively pass on our
faith to the next generation. We place great value on our ministry to kids. Our
ministry to teens is outstanding. We encourage, promote and practice doing
whatever it takes to make the "church of tomorrow" a critical part of the
"church of today". We have a young staff on purpose. If you want a church lead by old codgers for old codgers only, this
wouldn't be a church for you. But, if you long to see your kids and grandkids
become fully devoted followers of Jesus then ..." come on down".
